Silicon Valley Women in HR...& Friends Mailing and Event Announcement
Dear
Friends,
Happy New Year!
I hope you're well and that you can attend our next event about the first 90 days in a new job. Please note that the event time has changed and we've moved our speaker up 30 minutes. We hope this will work well with your schedule.
If you strictly want information about the next event, please look at the links to the right and go to Event Registration.
Following an event a few years ago, a nice person seeking a new job mentioned how grateful she was for our group. It gave her a place to go and network, learn new information and share her own experiences. She said how hard it is to attend when she is working full time and is tired at the end of the day. Her resolution was to go to events consistently and not stop when she found work.
Nice plan, and like a lot of resolutions, she started and stopped. Each time she landed a job she withdrew from events, and each time she was laid off or looking for another position, there she was again.
This is a common event. I work full time and sometimes it's hard at the end of the day go to various events. I go anyway, and 9 times out of 10 I'm very happy I've gone. It's making that effort that's important and I attend meetings in addition to our events.
We all lead busy lives and you'll help yourself by stimulating your mind, networking and learning what's new out there if you commit to going to events of some kind at least once a month. There are so many excellent organizations, great speakers to hear and free and paid events, that you won't become bored.
One woman I know is a regular participant in three different groups. She attends at least one and sometimes more meetings each month. It seems like everyone knows her and the reason why is that she makes that effort. She told me this has been invaluable in her role as a businesswoman and she has made a lot of friends this way.
Are you ready to do something good for yourself, too?
Last month I wrote a thank-you to our volunteers who planned and led last years' events and our terrific speakers. You can view that post by clicking here.
Our Volunteers will meet 1/16 to determine our speakers and topics for the year. If you'd like to volunteer, please register by clicking here.
Our list of previous speakers, their topics and many downloads, are listed on our Previous Speakers' Page.
We have a page on our site for advertising with links to Amazon products. Our site also has Google ads, and you're welcome to click on relevant links. These links provide a small amount of money to help pay for our domain.
You can subscribe to the blog, share it on Facebook or Tweet it. Join us on LinkedIn.
Because of my commitments I can’t mentor you, and please don’t send me unsolicited resumes. Come to an event and meet someone who can help. I receive a lot of unsolicited resumes (from our group and strangers) and I refer people to the forum at www.ourhrsite.com/forum. See the blog post for more thoughts. http://marciastein.blogspot.com/2009/02/setting-boundaries-and-professionalism.html
