How are you? I hope you're well.

Do you have the sense that wherever you turn, there's pressure and anger? You can see it at work and on the freeway, at job search support groups and on TV and the radio. People are stressed, and you know what? It's about to get worse. Much worse. We're running up to another election and that seems to bring out the worst on all sides.
Do you remember hearing civil debates? Seeing that elected representatives can disagree on approaches but still respect others and work with them? We have had that at times in the past, and we've had the ugly side, as well.
Several years ago, Donna Fedor, a wonderful recruiter and coach, presented to our group. She said something that was somewhat controversial for me at the time, but as I reflected, I knew she was right. She said you'll have a lot less stress and be happier if you turn off the news and aggressive programs.
I'm a news hound and look at a variety of sources for information. And yes, I do read and consider views from the other end of the political spectrum, and sometimes I do find agreement. I try to limit "opinion" reading as I've seen that even an innocent comment sparks uncomfortable conversations online, and I'm really not up for that. No post I have will change anyone's mind and angry responses will not change mine, either.
If you're experiencing more stress and maybe anger, try listening to something different. I've heard that hearing the music you loved as a teen makes you feel better, happier, different, and it's very true for me. So pump up the music, Friends!
This is a reminder that I am going to move us away from maintaining the Forum and encourage you to use our LinkedIn Group for posting. This will be a gradual change on the technical side. More people are using LinkedIn than the forum at this point, and it has been challenging to register people, help them through password problems and other maintenance issues. It served a great purpose for a long time, and it was all my husband's idea. Bill is an Electrical Engineer but he learned some code, set up our board, and taught me how to update and maintain it. Many people have posted resumes, jobs and events over the years, and I know a lot of people found work as a result. It honestly makes me very happy and proud to know it was so successful. Thank you, Bill!
Many thanks to Christine Young and Belina Pignataro for planning last month's event with Jane Kow. She presented "Accommodating and Disciplining Employees with Medical Conditions." Click on the Previous Speakers' link and search for a download of her handout.
