Silicon Valley Women in HR...& Friends Mailing and Event Announcement

Dear Friends,

How are you doing? In addition to some brief comments this note will cover:
    1. Thanks to our 2017 Volunteers.
    2. Next event: December 13 year-end dinner
    3. Request to complete our survey.

Let me first go to the hot topic: "me, too." I added this on my social media as it's true. I've heard some outrageous comments, had unwelcome kissing from a boss, had some other horrid experiences. One of the reasons why I was so glad to provide the mandated preventing sexual harassment workshops was that I identify with the victims and wanted to convince employees about how awful it is and how easy it is to avoid.

Here are my basic rules to avoid being a harasser: keep your hands to yourself, keep your clothes on, watch what you say and how you say it. Be respectful.

This article indicates the EEOC now has the ability to file workplace claims online. If you don't know how to address this issue in the workplace, I highly recommend reviewing the EEOC website, attend workshops or webinars and get some good training. With the visibility and courage of more people coming forward, be prepared for more complaints and questions in your workplace.

1. Where would we be without our wonderful volunteers? They have selected topics and speakers, confirmed the details of our events, and have increasingly been leading our meetings. I'm so grateful to them! The following people were our volunteers this year and I thank you all!

We must thank our great hosts at Oakwood Worldwide. They have hosted our group all year and have been wonderful to us. Thank you!

2. Our next event is the December 13 Year-End Dinner. We'll be ordering off the menu at Tao Tao in Sunnyvale. Please click here for our invitation. It is a great way to catch up and get to know each other a little better. I am sorry it lands on Chanukah this year but time constraints are not kind to all of us. If you haven't already replied, please do so and if you need to change your "yes" to a "no" please update us on the Evite page.

3. We re-opened our short survey to learn your thoughts about our group. Our initial response was so low that we wanted to expand your time to respond. If you already completed it, please do not do so again. It's available through January 17 and we want to hear from you! Please click here to participate.

I hope to see you at our December 13 dinner!

All the best,

Marcia
