Silicon Valley Women in HR...& Friends Mailing and Event Announcement

Dear Friends,

I hope you're well and that you can attend our next event about social media and employment law.  Roberta Hayashi is our speaker and she should be fantastic. Please note that the event time has changed and we've moved our speaker up 30 minutes. We hope this will work well with your schedule.

If you strictly want information about the next event, please look at the links to the right and go to Event Registration.

Last month, Jenny Vonderwerth and Christine Young led a great panel discussion about onboarding and the first 90 days of employment.  There are a few handouts from the event and you can download them from
our Previous Speakers' Page.   Many thanks to our volunteers and panelists.

I've previously written about violence in the workplace.  I feel so sick when I think about this topic.  I certainly wish we lived in a safe world, where we could guarantee our children would be safe at school, that we'd be safe in a mall, at the movies, in the workplace and on the freeway, but this is just not the case.

There is a great video at http://www.federalnewsradio.com/473/2966001/DHS-funded-video-gives-tips-to-survive-a-shooter.  It was produced by the Homeland Security Department.  "Run, Hide, Fight" is almost 6 minutes and well worth viewing.  The website has additional tips.  The tips showed in the movie can be used in other situations.

In 2007 on another blog I provided tips and some thoughts about violence and guns.  I'm interested in your thoughts and you're welcome to comment on this blog.

In my workplace, I'm working on a new series of training modules about violence in the workplace.  If you have not received or rolled out this kind of training, it's something you should consider.

Our list of previous speakers, their topics and many downloads, are listed on our Previous Speakers' Page.

We have a page on our site for advertising with links to Amazon products. Our site also has Google ads, and you're welcome to click on relevant links. These links provide a small amount of money to help pay for our domain.

You can subscribe to the blog, share it on Facebook or Tweet it. Join us on

Because of my commitments I can’t mentor you, and please don’t send me unsolicited resumes. Come to an event and meet someone who can help. I receive a lot of unsolicited resumes (from our group and strangers) and I refer people to the forum at
www.ourhrsite.com/forum. See the blog post for more thoughts. http://marciastein.blogspot.com/2009/02/setting-boundaries-and-professionalism.html
