Silicon Valley Women in HR...& Friends Mailing and Event Announcement

Dear Friends,

How are you?  I hope you're well.

If you strictly want information about our next event, please look at the links to the right and go to Event Registration.  Before you go, please check out the links at the bottom of this page.

Before I get to my musings, here's a reminder about our discount for the HR Symposium:

The HR Symposium is coming May 13!  They have been very generous to us in the past and they have extended a discount again this year.  Check the post on our discount page for details.  Meanwhile, they sent this note and I hope you have a good nominee!
Nominate and Celebrate! The HR Symposium’s nominations for the HR awards of excellence are due March 24th. Surely you’ve admired and/or experienced the leadership and achievements of a particular HR professional or team, colleague or HR business partner and have always felt that their achievements should be recognized.  Now is your opportunity to honor them.  We are accepting nominations for the HR awards of excellence ceremony at the 2014 annual HR Symposium held at the Santa Clara Convention Center on Tuesday, May 13th.  As part of our program we will be recognizing individuals or teams whose efforts have advanced initiatives and/or contributed to the betterment of the HR field.   http://hrsymposium.org/

Do you want a "seat at the table" in your organization?  If you do, you must know what data is important in your organization, how to obtain it and what it means.  How many job descriptions - in HR and other roles - mention the importance of metrics?  If you want to expand your thinking about data, you must come to our March 18 event!  Patty Woolcock will talk with us about how she utilizes data for planning and coaching business partners.

A couple of years ago, I enjoyed a coffee date with Patty.  She is so interesting as a person and she explained what she did, giving an example that concerned planning an organization's staffing needs and all of the items she took into account.  After all those years in HR, going to many workshops, seminars, and reading a lot of materials, I can honestly tell you that I was given a whole other level of information than I'd ever gotten.

I hope you're able to attend!

Many thanks to Idit Stefanson and Margaret Almeida for planning last month's event with Barbara Gottesman presenting "How to Slay a Pirate: Lessons on Success from Sailing the Pacific."  I had a wonderful time learning Barbara's story and hearing the goals of the people who attended.  Click on the Previous Speakers' link and search for a download of the presentation.
